At GLOWBIOTICS, we know the idea of probiotics’ in skincare can be confusing. As the probiotic skincare pioneer, we are going to make it simple for you. Understanding how probiotics are beneficial topically, begins with understanding the science of the skin.
The Skin's Microbiome
What are Microbiomes? The microbiome of the skin is simply the collection of microorganisms that live on the surface of our skin; bacteria, fungi and/or viruses, some good and some bad. There are over 1,000 different bacterial species and up to 80 different fungi species that live on the skin. Most are found in the superficial layers of the epidermis and the upper parts of hair follicles. |
How does the microbiome affect my skin?An imbalanced microbiome is associated with many skin diseases, including psoriasis, allergies, eczema, contact dermatitis, acne, poor wound healing, skin ulcers, dandruff, yeast and fungal infections, rosacea, and accelerated skin aging. It takes a healthy balance of these bacteria, fungi and viruses to have healthy and balanced skin. |
GLOWBIOTICS has coined these living organisms as the “Beauty Bugs” (good bacteria) and “Bad Bugs” (bad bacteria) to help bring clarity to the science of skin health."Beauty bugs" (good bacteria) have been shown to act as a natural protective shield against "bad bugs". When the microbiome is not balanced, the immune system can release various antimicrobial peptides (proteins that help kill the bad bacteria) and bring harmony back to the skin. |
This is where probiotics and skincare come in –
UNDERSTANDING PROBIOTICS & THEIR SUPPORT SYSTEMS |
Prebiotics are the “fertilizer” or “food,” so to speak, that encourages essential microorganisms to grow. They are the natural partner to probiotics, increasing the production of this important bacteria promoting healthy balance to the skin. |
Probiotics are the microorganisms themselves and naturally live on the surface of the skin, creating a protective veil referred to as the skin’s microbiome. When your skin’s microbiome is in balance, it helps offset factors that can negatively influence skin, such as factors that lead to redness, dryness, and a weakened surface that more quickly shows signs of aging from environmental attack. |
Postbiotics have become a recent hot topic of conversation; furthermore, postbiotics are being used more commonly in skincare as they do not expire as quickly as living probiotics. Postbiotics are derived from the lysate enzyme, which is extracted from the beneficial strain of a probiotic source. It is then fermented and formulated into products without having to worry about it expiring in a matter of a few days or even a few weeks yet giving the same balancing benefits. Postbiotics have also been shown to support the efficacy of other ingredients in skincare formulations. |

WHERE DO GLOWBIOTICS PROBIOTICS COME FROM?
PROBIOTIC DERIVED BIOACTIVES (PDB’s)When Probiotic Derived Bioactives, produced when body-friendly bacteria are put through a special fermentation process, are applied to the skin, a myriad of beneficial skin health pathways are stimulated. They alter the skin's ratio of commensal-to-pathogenic microorganisms. They increase skin barrier integrity while optimizing collagen and elastin levels. They also decrease negative responses in the skin, making PDBs remarkable in their ability to drastically improve the health and appearance of all skin types. At GLOWBIOTICS we use several strains of beneficial probiotics, including Bacillus Ferment, Lactococcus Ferment Lysate and Lactobacillus/Saccharomyces/Rice/Sucrose Ferment Filtrate. |
DO THE PRODUCTS NEED TO BE REFRIGERATED?Because the probiotics (PDBs) are non-living, refrigeration is not needed. |
